“Penny for a gumball, Popeye. Thanks for the gum ball!”

The other day in the supermarket, I saw this…
gumballs

…which immediately made me think of these…

Vintage Popeye, Bozo, Flintstone & Mickey Gumball Machine Banks by Hasbro, circa 1968-'70s. From the wonderful PATRICK OWSLEY cartoon Art & More! Blog.

…and I dimly recalled a phrase, “Penny for a gumball, Popeye. Thanks for the gumball!”…

…which now means I’ll be on the hunt for one of these on Ebay now.

I wonder if I can still get a Mickey at SEARS for $1.99?

So I better get prepared and pick up some gum balls now.
